What you do with this scholarship is so much more than help send kids like me as ambassadors for exchange and understanding. You’re giving us the opportunity to learn lessons we never thought we could, and you’re helping us become better people. I’m overwhelmed by the generosity that this scholarship represents, and all the good that it can foster in this world.
— Calvin Engstrom, 2018 Sweden Fall Semester

You are invited!

Join us on May 18, 2019 in Petoskey, Michigan for an event celebrating the remarkable gift of studying abroad! YFU USA Trustee and program alum, Mamiko Reeves, together with her husband and YFU USA alum, Chip Reeves, will be hosting this fundraiser in Petoskey to benefit transformative exchange programs and support scholarships for students that lack the means to afford a study abroad experience. The evening’s featured guest and native Negaunee Michigander will be New York Times best-selling author and internationally renowned motivational speaker, Jason Jennings (pictured below). As an alum of YFU USA, Jason credits his exchange programs to France as the start of his inclusive world view and ability to communicate with others. Read more about Jason’s YFU experience on our blog.

My YFU program provided me a foundation of thrift, resourcefulness, and resilience. It was the start of an inclusive world view, the ability to communicate with others, a fierce sense of self-reliance when confronted with challenging circumstances and aroused in me a curious mind that has taken me to more than 100 countries and cultures. The gift of experiencing and living in another culture and language proved to be priceless for me.
— Jason Jennings

Why now?

We live in a divided world, and cultural exchange is needed now more than ever. Bridging the gap between cultures is urgent. YFU’s exchange programs allow us to come together. They expose students, families, and communities to new and different cultures, which in turn broadens global perspectives. Cultural exchange creates powerful interpersonal experiences, increasing tolerance and helping to eliminate destructive stereotypes. These experiences make the world a more peaceful and understanding place.
