Scholarship Amount

This is a full scholarship which covers 100% of tuition.

Tuition Includes

  • Round-trip international travel

  • Round-trip domestic travel

  • Placement with a carefully selected host family, generally near Hiroshima

  • Pre-departure orientation

  • Preparatory materials

  • Support services in host country

  • The scholarship experience culminates with a visit to Mazda’s world headquarters in Hiroshima where students have the opportunity to go on a tour of the Mazda Museum.

  • Comprehensive Insurance

Eligibility

  • Open to high school students who are dependents of full-time employees of Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) or an MCI Retailer. Parents must have been employed with MCI or an MCI Retailer for at least six months at the time of application.
  • Students must be non-smokers.
  • Only Canadian citizens and legal residents may apply.
  • Applicant must meet the age requirements listed on the Japan country page.

Scholarship Recipients are Responsible for

  • Passport

  • Visa fees (if necessary)

  • Any excess luggage tariffs

  • Personal spending money

  • Upon returning home, scholarship winners are expected to complete at least one presentation in their school or community to share their experiences, teach others about the culture in their host country, and encourage other students to participate in foreign exchange.

  • Within one month of returning home, the student must provide a report and photos detailing their exchange experience to YFU to be shared with Mazda Canada.

This scholarship is open to high school students who are dependents of full-time employees of Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) or an MCI Retailer. Parents must have been employed with MCI or an MCI Retailer for at least six months at the time of application. Applicants must be non-smokers and either Canadian citizens or legal residents.

The scholarship covers round-trip international and domestic travel, placement with a carefully selected host family (generally near Hiroshima), pre-departure orientation, preparatory materials, support services in the host country, and comprehensive insurance. Additionally, scholarship recipients have the unique opportunity to visit Mazda’s world headquarters in Hiroshima and tour the Mazda Museum.

Applicants must complete an online application, obtain a teacher recommendation, provide a host family letter, answer three short answer essay questions, submit a health certificate, a parent-student agreement, five candid photos, and eight passport-sized photos. The application fee of $10 is paid by Mazda Canada.
